Houston based Kodan Quintet pushes the bounds of chamber music performance through unique, refreshing, and newly commissioned repertoire that emphasizes audience accessibility and underrepresented voices. Curated performances by the quintet reach beyond the concert hall, bringing indelible musical moments into schools, bars, and churches while continuing a virtual presence via livestream. Inspired by works such as William Grant Still’s Miniatures and Jon Deak’s The Bremen Town Musicians, the ensemble specializes in merging typical performance practices with storytelling, theatrics, and drama. The Kodan Quintet’s distinct musical approach allows for deeper forms of expression in performances of modern works, hidden gems, and revitalized renditions of quintet classics. Quintet members Hunter O’Brien, Ian Daugherty, Keeheon Nam, Corbin Krebs, and Lauren Anker come from all corners of the United States and Canada and together have received prizes and recognition from the Coltman, MTNA, Fischoff, and New Orleans ChamberFest competitions.
